Glossary
Quick reference for the medical-AI terms that appear across the exhibitors.
14 term(s)
FHIR / SMART on FHIR
Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources — an HL7 standard for exchanging health data. SMART on FHIR adds an app-authorization layer so apps run securely on any compliant system.
sEMG
Surface electromyography — non-invasive sensing of muscle electrical activity, used here to gauge muscle activation and effort during training.
IMU
Inertial Measurement Unit — combines accelerometer and gyroscope (often 6-axis) to track motion, posture and gait.
De-identification
Irreversibly stripping personal identifiers from data (e.g. live video) so monitoring can run without exposing identity — key to privacy-compliant care.
AIoT
AI + Internet of Things — connected sensors/devices whose data is analysed by AI, common in continuous care monitoring.
Edge computing / NPU
Processing data on the local device (often via a Neural Processing Unit) instead of the cloud — lower latency and data never leaves the premises.
Frailty / Sarcopenia
Age-related decline in strength and muscle mass; AI assessment tools flag risk early to guide rehab and fall prevention.
Contactless monitoring
Measuring vital signs (heart rate, breathing, sleep) without wearables — e.g. a sensor under the mattress or radar — reducing burden on residents.
HIS / EMR
Hospital Information System / Electronic Medical Record — the core software that runs clinical and administrative workflows in a hospital.
RoB (Risk of Bias)
A quality-appraisal step in evidence synthesis / meta-analysis; AI can grade the risk of bias of studies automatically.
MR navigation
Mixed-reality surgical navigation — overlays positioning guidance for the clinician, with sub-millimetre localisation algorithms.
ASR
Automatic Speech Recognition — converts speech to text; multilingual ASR (Mandarin/English/Taiwanese/Hakka) speeds clinical documentation and communication.
Demo Day
A stage session where vendors pitch solutions to potential partners/buyers — a core matchmaking format at this expo.
Precision prevention
Using individual health data and AI prediction to act before disease onset, rather than treating after the fact.
